Ice surfaceRefrigerated: City of Pella council minutes (May 20, 2025) approved a donation and construction agreement “to construct an ice rink chiller system at Caldwell Park,” and the city ice-rink page states “As of December 2025 the Caldwell chiller system has been installed!” Disclosure: this is a newly refrigerated rink with only one refrigerated season so far (2025–26); the chiller is a permanent installation, which is the basis for this evergreen listing.

Plan your visit

The rink is at the Caldwell Park Shelter House in Pella, and its new chiller means ice is no longer limited to the coldest January and February weeks, though opening still depends on temperatures. No admission prices or session hours are published on the city page, and youth skate rentals only are available through the Community Center office during business hours (no adult rentals), so bring your own skates if you can. Heated restrooms are available during open skate hours. Check the city ice-rink page before going: 2026–27 dates have not been announced.

What makes this rink distinctive

A small-town rink that just got real infrastructure: Pella’s portable backer-board rink, in place since 2017 and previously limited to about 15 skating days a winter, now has a permanent chiller system funded by the community, extending its season to late November through early March when temperatures allow. It is the clearest example in this batch of a town investing to make winter skating reliable rather than weather-lucky.
