Plan your visit

Old Town Skate is Louisville’s outdoor rink at Steinbaugh Pavilion in historic downtown, running each winter since 2004 and now managed by the City of Louisville after its years as BCE’s WinterSkate. The 2026–27 season dates, admission, rental terms and hours have not been published yet, so check the operator site before going. Prior-season prices are deliberately not carried forward, and no rink size is published: sources conflict between 5,000 and 6,500 square feet.

What makes this rink distinctive

A two-decade downtown tradition with an old-fashioned outdoor feel, created each fall as a frozen-pond illusion over tubing, glycol and a 60-ton chiller. Do not confuse it with the other WinterSkates: Boulder’s is closed and will not reopen, Northfield’s may be closed, and Fort Collins’ Old Town Square rink is synthetic. Louisville, Colorado is also not Louisville, Kentucky.

Real ice from the BCE FAQ (“network of plastic tubing, glycol, sand, wood, and a 60-ton chiller”, Steinbaugh Pavilion, 824 Front St), corroborated by a City of Louisville P&L showing Trane chiller rental and glycol; recurrence from the city’s Downtown Dialogue (2025–26 season open through February 16, new operator) and the city page noting the rink is now city-managed as Old Town Skate. 2026–27 dates, prices and hours are unpublished; prior-season prices and the conflicting size figures are not carried.
