What makes this rink distinctive

A downtown-square rink with a documented surface switch: the prior rink was synthetic, and for 2025–26 it was upgraded to real ice, operated by Ice Stars under a City of Garland procurement that specifies a piping grid and an air-cooled chiller. That upgrade, plus the square setting among Garland’s shops and restaurants, is what separates it from a generic festival rink — and the listing is explicit that a 2026–27 return has not yet been announced.
