HARTFORD, Conn. — Winterfest Hartford returns to Bushnell Park on November 27, 2026, with free public ice skating, complimentary skate rentals and beginner-friendly activities. The holiday attraction gives visitors a downtown skating option without the usual admission or equipment-rental expense.
Free skating — and free skates
Many seasonal ice rinks charge separate admission and rental fees. Winterfest Hartford takes a different approach: its organizers advertise both skating and skate rentals at no charge, making it easier for families and first-time skaters to visit without buying equipment.
The opening-day ice skating event is listed for Friday, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The organizer lists regular hours Tuesday through Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. rink-entry cutoff, subject to holiday changes. The rink is planned for Bushnell Park in downtown Hartford, near Connecticut’s State Capitol and the Bushnell Center area.
Learn-to-skate opportunities during the season
The event calendar also includes free lessons. One scheduled learn-to-skate event is December 5, 2026, at the Bushnell Park skating rink. The program is intended to help skaters of different ages get comfortable on the ice.
Guests need to complete an electronic skating waiver, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For families planning a holiday outing, the free rentals are an important detail. Visitors should still check the organizer’s event calendar for availability, skate sizes, weather-related closures and any changes to individual sessions.
Check dates before heading downtown
Winterfest’s public listings confirm the November 27 opening, but a complete and current 2026–27 closing date has not been independently verified. Some listings still show prior-season January dates, which should not be treated as confirmed dates for the new winter.
